Match the suit or the rank, and every eight is wild.

About the game

The classic shedding game against one to three computer players. Match the top card of the discard pile by suit or by rank, throw an eight on anything and name the suit to follow, and be the first to get rid of every card. Whoever goes out scores the cards left in the other hands: play a single round or a match to 100 or 200 points.

Rules

A standard deck of 52 cards. With two players each gets seven cards, with three or four players five. The next card of the stock starts the discard pile (an eight goes back under the stock). You play first in the first round; after that the deal moves on.

On your turn, play one card onto the discard pile that matches its top card in suit or in rank: a 9 of hearts goes on any heart or on any 9.

Eights are wild: an eight goes on any card, and whoever plays it names the suit that comes next. The next player must follow that suit or play another eight.

If nothing fits, draw a card from the stock. With "draw one" (the default) a drawn card that fits may be played straight away; otherwise the turn passes. With "draw until it fits" you keep drawing until you can play. When the stock runs out, the discard pile under its top card is shuffled into a new stock.

The first player to get rid of every card wins the round and scores the cards left in the other hands: 50 for an eight, 10 for a king, queen or jack, 1 for an ace and face value for the rest. If nobody can play or draw any more, the player holding the fewest points wins the round.

Play a single round, or a match to 100 or 200 points: the first to reach the target wins.
