Texas Hold'em

No-limit poker against one to five friendly bots, with play chips.

About the game

The poker everybody knows, heads-up or at a table of six. Two cards of your own, five shared on the board, and four rounds of betting: fold, check, call, bet or raise, all in when it counts. The bots weigh their hands against the pot odds and play easy, normal or hard. Side pots, a showdown that names the winning hand, an optional hand-strength meter and a hint that does the math. Played with chips that are only for fun: nothing to buy, nothing to win.

Rules

Everybody starts with 1,000 chips. The dealer button moves one seat to the left each hand; the two seats after it post the small and the big blind. Heads-up, the button posts the small blind and acts first before the flop.

Everybody gets two cards face down. Then there are four betting rounds: before the flop, after the flop (three cards on the board), after the turn (a fourth) and after the river (a fifth). Before the flop the player after the big blind starts; later rounds start left of the button.

On your turn you may fold, check when nothing is bet, call the bet, or bet and raise. No limit: any amount up to your whole stack. A bet is at least the big blind, a raise at least the size of the last raise. An all-in that is smaller than a full raise does not let players who already acted raise again.

When only one player is left, the pot is theirs and nobody shows. Otherwise the hands are shown: the best five cards out of your two and the five on the board win. From high to low: straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, pair, high card. Equal hands split the pot.

A player who is all in can only win as much from each opponent as they put in: the rest goes into a side pot that only the others play for. Each pot goes to the best hand among the players who were in for it.

The chips are play chips: nothing can be bought or won with them. Your stack is saved with the game; if you or a bot runs out, a fresh stack of 1,000 comes at the next hand.

How to play

  1. Look at your two cards and the board in the middle.
  2. On your turn: fold, check or call, or bet and raise with the slider.
  3. Make the best five-card hand from your two cards and the five on the board.
  4. Win the pot at the showdown, or when everyone else folds.
